Take off the decorative cap and use a screwdriver to loosen the screws in the center of the handle.

Shut off the water supply to the faucet and open the valves to drain excess water from the system. Once the screws are removed tug on the handle to detach it from the wall. Over time corrosion can virtually weld the handle to the stem. Then use a philips screwdriver to remove the handle from the wall before unscrewing the trim and collar by hand.

To determine the cause of the leak you ll first need to dismantle the faucet. To test to make sure the leak is fixed turn on the water and let it run for a minute. Pry off the handle insert with the thin blade of a pocketknife. Removing the faucet handle is the toughest part of the job.

Close the drain and place a towel in the sink to protect the surface and catch any dropped parts. Turn faucet handles to the on position to release any residual water.
